November 17 – The Rotary Club of Kernersville celebrated its 25th anniversary (Nov. 24, 1987) at the Triad Park. President Overton Harper presented crystal gifts to the charter members and gave a long list of achievements, honors, service projects that our club has sponsored, initiated and continued for 25 years to make Kernersville a better place to live.

Just a few of the projects that have been started over the years have been … the Pancake Supper, Rotary Scholarships, visiting various nursing homes at Christmas, 4th of July Parade and race, various Rotary International and 7690 honors and awards, Cash Elementary Study Buddies, East and Glenn Interact clubs, local RYLA, Triple Crown Club award on 2 occasions and much more.

November 14 – Rotary Park is dedicated at the Kernersville Farmer’s Market. 4 statues and 3 plaques on the stage area recognize our charter members and the formation of the Kernersville foundation.  The statues are representations of:  international projects, youth sports, study buddy program, and other educational based projects like bright beginnings, scholarships, etc.

September 28Triple Crown Club for the Second Time – Current DG, Rick Snyder and various PDGs were on hand to officially announce that the Rotary Club of Kernersville has obtained the ‘Triple Crown Designation’ for the 2nd time. No other club in this or any other district has ever achieved this. This represents 100% of our members are: (More ‘Triple Crown’ info)

August 22 –

August 18th – Bright Beginnings

YMCA Bright Beginnings200+ volunteers escorted some 185 kids and purchased school supplies, clothes at WalMart / Target and had a picnic at the YMCA.

YMCA Bright Beginnings gives children in our community the tools they need to succeed each year. Students from low-income families are provided with new clothes, shoes and a backpack filled with supplies. Together we can ensure that hundreds of students get the school started on the right foot.

June 2012 – This morning the Rotary Club of Kernersville named Ellen Mantell a Paul Harris Fellow.  Ellen manages the food services at First Christian Church where the Rotary Club meets.  The photo to the right is Pam Ray, Ellen and Terry Titus, District Governor of Rotary District 7690. Ellen was one of 8 non Rotarians to be selected by District 7690 for the Paul Harris Fellow recognition because her life exemplifies the principles of the Rotary Foundation.  Details here!


Rotary 7690 District Conference – The Rotary Club of Kernersville was awarded ‘Gold Club’ for the 14th straight year.

To achieve Gold Club, a club must obtain a series of goals based on membership, district conference participations, local community service projects, participation in international Rotary projects, growth in Paul Harris Society / Bequest Society membership and many more activities.


March 16, 2012 / Arbor Day – The East Forsyth Interact Club, in conjunction with our own Rotary Club participated in an Arbor Day planting of a Holly tree at East Forsyth.

Mayor Dawn Morgan was the guest speaker and she talked about the Town of Kernersville and the Tree Commission, created in 2010. The Tree Commission focus is to protect and preserve our urban forest.

The Interact Club of East High School, sponsored by Fred Thompson, is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people ages 14-18. The program gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends
