RYLA – Rotary Youth Leadership Academy

RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy)

The Rotary Club of Kernersville annual Rotary Youth Leadership Academy is usually held in July and includes outstanding young leaders from both East Forsyth and Glenn High Schools participating in the program which is modeled after the Leadership Kernersville program. Our club began this Rotary training program for young people back in 1997.

RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth, and aims to

  • Demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth.
  • Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders.
  • Encourage leadership of youth by youth.
  • Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their community.

Topics for the week include the History of Kernersville, World & Community Service Day, Law Enforcement, Government and Leadership. Various speakers usually include Kernersville’s Mayor, County Commissioners, our Police Chief, School Board Members and local businessmen. The group tours Korner’s Folly, the Kernersville Police Department and the Forsyth County Jail.
