PRESIDENT's COLUMN

IT’S NOT WHAT YOU DO…IT’S HOW YOU DO IT

One of the wonderful things about Rotary is the opportunity it affords its members to interact with dozens of individuals whose occupations are completely different than their own.  The concept of vocation is a very important part of Rotary.  The “Object of Rotary” puts it best:  Rotary seeks to “…encourage and foster:  …[h]igh ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society…”

October is Vocation Service Month in Rotary.  I hope each of you will look for ways to share more about your vocation with your fellow Rotarians and share Rotary with those with whom you work.  One way to share your vocation is to participate in our club’s annual “Shadow Day” service project, which takes place Wednesday, October 21, 2009.  Contact Mike Shaw for more details.  As I’ve told you many times, Kernersville Rotarians are special people, for many reasons.  Not least of these is the way in which each of you lives your life as a Rotarian everyday, everywhere, even (perhaps especially) at your place of business.
