PRESIDENT's COLUMN

November is Rotary Foundation month. The Rotary Foundation was established in 1917, but only began to grow to where it is today in 1947, after Paul Harris died and donations began pouring in. Through our quarterly dues each one of us contributes to this fund and helps make many programs possible. The programs that are set up by the Rotary Foundation benefit Kernersville and others around the world each day.

Programs like District Simplified Grants. This year we will again be doing a project with this program when we build a new book checkout center at the Cash Elementary library. With $1200.00 from the District Simplified Grant program we were able to double the money that we donated to this project.

Our international project helping the blind girl's school in Pakistan is also benefiting from a Rotary Foundation program: Matching Grants. With the assistance of many other clubs in our district we combined our money with the Matching Grant program of The Rotary Foundation and are able to have a bigger impact. This means more equipment for the school.

I encourage each and every one of you to look at the many ways that you can contribute to the Rotary Foundation in other ways: becoming a Paul Harris Fellow, becoming a Benefactor, making to donation for Polio Plus. Rotarians donated $70 million to The Rotary Foundation in 2003-04. Are you doing your part? Do you know how? If not, talk to our Foundation Chairperson, Jake Cashion.

Remember, the money you donate helps other around the world and in Kernersville in many different ways each and every day.

Yours in Rotary,

Brian
